Abstract

Retrospective study of the series of pediatric dogs and cats treated at Hospital Veterinário Universitário Prof. Ivon Macêdo Tabosa - Federal University of Campina Grande. In the routine of the canine and feline medical clinic, there is a significant number of pediatric patients affected by pathologies. For these animals to be assisted more successfully, the physiological specificities and basic care of these animals should be known to the veterinarian. The objective of this work is to perform a survey of the pediatric cases registered in the Canine and Feline Medical Clinic of the University Veterinary Hospital Prof. Ivon Macêdo Tabosa of Campina Grande (HV / UFCG), Campus de Patos - PB, from January 2013 to January 2018, through the analysis of the clinical records. During this period, 22,014 dogs and cats were attended, of which 2,211 (10.04%) were pediatric cases, 1,335 (60.37%) dogs and 876 cats (39.63%). Among these visits, 132 different types of diagnoses were registered, most of them in the juvenile phase, with hemoparasitoses (238 cases, 17.82%), gastroenteritis (156 cases, 11.68%), fractures (115 cases, 8.6%) and distemper (61 cases, 4.56%) in the canines and fractures (99 cases, 11.30%), notohedral scabies (74 cases, 8.44%), rhinotracheitis (69 cases, 7.87%) and elective OSH (64, cases 7.3%) in cats. The number of deaths in the studied period was 244 (11.3%) animals, with gastroenteritis being the main cause of death among dogs and fractures (or polytrauma) among cats.
