Resumo:
Social representations of high school students from a public school in Patos - PB about the environment, sustainability and environmental education. Every day it becomes more visible and imminent the needing for environmental education as a prudent and effective measure before emerging environmental problems. This study aims to evaluate the profile of public school students in the city of Patos - PB, as their representations, ecological attitudes and knowledge of their environment and their social and environmental problems. The research was conducted at the School E.E.E.M Monsenhor Manoel Vieira located in Patos – PB, where 129 students were interviewed. The research was through a questionnaire based on the model of Likert Scale and validated with 62 questions and four dimensions: Solid Waste (D1), Electricity (D2); Social and Environmental Practices (D3) and the Environment and Sustainability in School (D4). The results demonstrated the reliability of the questionnaire with Cronbach's alpha acceptable in all dimensions (D1 = 0.71, D2 = 0.70, D3 = 0.70, D4 = 0.80) and Cronbach's alpha was generally equal to 0 80. The classification of the attitude (N = negative, C = P = conflicting or positive) of the students interviewed for each dimension was: D1 (N = 41.09%, C = 53.49%, P = 5.43%); D2 (C = 10.8%: C = 66.67%, P = 23.26%), D3 (N = 70.54%: C = 27.13%, P = 2,33%), D4 (N % = 55.81, C = 44.19%, P = 0,00%). And the general classification of students was as follows: Negative = 44.38%, 47.87% and Conflicting = Positive = 7.75%. The results clearly indicate the deficiency of the students as a positive attitude and are worrying as the profile of students in the final stage of schooling. This research combines fundamental information in determining the social representation of students regarding matters related to the environment, education and environmental sustainability can be an information tool to direct pedagogical actions on Environmental Education.
