Abstract:
The concern over environmental issues, especially in regard to the uncontrolled use
of natural resources, has been reflecting a high degree of environmental degradation.
Improper use of the environment causes a break in the natural dynamics of the
ecosystem, damaging it generally to all the elements that compose it. Therefore, this
study was designed to examine the potential use of nucleation techniques. The study
area is located in Cachoeira de São Porfirio Farm in the city of Varzea, micro-region
of the Seridó, in the hinterland of Paraiba. Windrowing of brushwood was
implemented which became artificial shelters for wildlife and action of decomposers.
It was observed during the experimental period major decomposition of the material
forming brushwood. This shows one of the features of this type of practice, which is
to increase the content of organic matter, that is a source of food for soil biota. And
being the artificial perches heavily visited by birds, and used as a resting place.
During the 12-month period, 125 seeds of the species Jatropha curcas (pinhão
manso) were found in collectors. The use of perches by birds was visible during the
experimental period showing that birds are acquiring the habit of using the structures
resulting in an increase in seed rain. The nucleation techniques have different
features and particularities that if they are applied together, they will act in favor of
the natural succession and restocking of the area.
