Resumo:
The present qualitative research developed along with the Professional Master of Arts Polo UFCG, deals with the importance of establishing connections between the Portuguese language teaching and the studies of popular culture. This paper used a bibliographic review perspective, the theoretical assumptions of the French Orientation Discourse Analysis (AD), to highlight the relationship established between Discourse, History, and Memory; to the conceptual foundations of Culture, Popular Culture, and Cultural Identity. It has also taken the stories and memories that circulate through local Literature, resulting from the narratives of residents and pilgrims that were recorded and published, especially by Aquino (1997), Araújo (1988), Barbosa (1997), Cava (2014 ), Dodou (2016), Neto (2009) and Walker (2009), to reaffirm the importance of a greater emphasis on the study of local history and culture, based on the historical-cultural relationship between Padre Cícero and Juazeiro do Norte - CE, in the context of elementary schools in that city. It has been discussed the teaching of Portuguese by the
guidance of national parameter documents (PCN, BNCC), especially in the context of the Final Years of Elementary Education, with an emphasis on textual genres as indispensable resources for theoretical and methodological approaches to cultural studies popular through Portuguese language teaching. It was used as a pedagogical product, a educational book, plus a didactic intervention proposal applicable to the last years of Elementary Education, especially in schools in Juazeiro do Norte-CE. It was based on the adoption of literary genres memories, cordel, blessed folk, and short film, to highlight the intrinsic relationship that is established between the stories and memories about Padre Cicero and Juazeiro do Norte - CE.
