Abstract:
The aging process contributes to the population looking for prevention and treatment
measures to contain changes that occur mainly in the face. The emergence and
evolution of science enabled the development of facial harmonization techniques in
order to reshape the face region and reduce the advances of deep wrinkles and
expression lines. With the advancement of studies, it was observed that botulinum
toxin type A has properties to prevent and smooth wrinkles, treat scars, correct facial
asymmetries and gummy smile. In this work we carried out a literary research on the
facial harmonization technique using botulinum toxin type A and the possibility of
application by the pharmaceutical professional. Therefore, an integrative bibliographic
research was carried out in the databases of Scielo, Scholar Google, Pubmed, Caps
Periodics and in national and international health committees. The articles were found
in full via the internet, in Portuguese, English and Spanish, which addressed studies
on the use of botulinum toxin type A published in the last eight years (2013-2021). The
terms used for the search are keywords or combinations of terms: harmonization,
botox, aesthetic pharmacist, aging. A total of 72 publications were analyzed to carry
out this review, among articles, resolutions and reports published in journals,
government agencies and health committees. This bibliographic survey allowed us to
visualize the comprehensive field of action in aesthetics for the pharmacist, especially
in the application of botulinum toxin for the treatment of the most diverse imperfections
on the face. We also highlighted the importance of using safety measures and studying
the condition of each patient so as not to compromise their well-being and to present
the best result. We can see that this is a very broad field of action that is developed
mainly in Brazil, where the pharmaceutical professional can apply botulinum toxin type
A supported by current legislation.
