Thesystematic eliminationof forest coverthrough
thesavannabiomemodelextractionand misuseof landhas causedserious
environmental problemsinsemiaridnortheast.TheSabiáis a kindused for
varioususes,such aspoles,fence posts, firewood and charcoal, as a pioneer plantand
presentrapid growth.This workaimed tostudy the influence ofphosphatefertilizer,
potassium andorganic matter in theinitial growth ofSabiáplants(Mimosa
caesalpiniifoliaBenth) developing in thesemiarid regionof Paraíba.The study areais
located onFazendaCachoeira de São Porfírio,in the municipality ofVárzea- PB, under
the coordinates7°2'20''south latitude and37º 26'43''longitude west of Greenwich. The
experiment, which lasted seven months, was installedin April2011, the first samples
collectedforty-three daysafter installation.The resultsshow that thebasal diameterwas
influencedonly byplant sabiá,this could haveoccurred onlyby the naturaldevelopment
of the species. The joint applicationof manureand potassium in thehigher
dosageprovidedagreaterrate ofincrease in thediameter of thesabiáplants. The
number of ácarosinthe topsoil(0.0 to 5.3 cm) was lower than that obtainedin
thesubsequentlayer(5.3 to 10.6). Thephosphorusalong
withorganicgrowthwasbeneficial forplant heightinsabiá.
