Resumen:
The urban forestry contributes to improve life quality of the population generating
environmental and social benefits to the urban environment. This study aimed to
research the tree species found in São João do Rio do Peixe-PB through a
qualitative and quantitative analysis. The data observed the following items: common
name of the species, street name, location, height and species phytosanitary
conditions. We identified a total of 2008 individual trees of 16 species, where the
Azadirachta indica was the predominant species. A large number of individuals (137)
was identified in the juvenile phase, which shows the recent tree planting in the city.
Most species used in the city are exotic (96.74%), small-sized (69.52%) showing
good phytosanitary conditions of the canopy (98.9%), trunk (99.7%) and root
(88.05%). There are conflicts of trees and power networks because of the lack of
planning on the part of government agencies, since the population does the planting.
