Abstract:
Degree of socioeconomic and environmental deterioration of the Rio da Cruz watershed, State of Paraíba. Environmental balance and proper management of land use in river basins is essential for the maintenance of natural resources and society in general, aiming at the sustainability and rational use of natural resources. Socioeconomic activities that cause environmental impacts must be known, with a view to a better management of this territorial space. Among the available techniques, the diagnosis through questionnaires to describe the socioeconomic and environmental conditions of the microcatchments is an option. This study aimed to determine deteriorating units in the Rio da Cruz watershed using socioeconomic and environmental diagnoses. The results obtained show the indices analyzed for socioeconomic and environmental factors, respectively, with 53.46% and 23.8%. In this sense, social and economic issues are the most worrisome, considering that the degree of deterioration is well above the value indicated by the methodology adopted.
