Abstract:
The objective of this study was to verify the perception of the residents of the
damping zone regarding the Seridó Ecological Station and the activities developed
by the managers in that zone. The delimitation of the damping zone was defined at
the time of its creation, where the interviews were conducted, which is one of the
most common techniques in the social sciences that approach human problems,
including not only the obtaining of information, but also the objectives for diagnosis
and orientation. For the study of perception, a questionnaire was used with structured
and semi-structured questions. The interviewees were chosen randomly, in the
damping zone. In the analysis of the interviews was used basic mathematics and
content analysis. It was possible to realize that there is an understanding of the
population as to aspects related to the importance and conservation of nature. As for
the relation of the residents with the zone of cushioning, it was identified the non
existence and the lack of knowledge about this zone. When the station was
evaluated, it reveals that there are administrative problems and also a lack of
financial and human resources, but good practices have already existed with the
residents of the surroundings, which together with the current perception of the
interviewees creates an environment favorable to changes that brings development
and improvements for the relations of the conservation unit with the surrounding
population.
