Resumen:
The present writing aims to analyze the political satire, the farce and aspects of the characterization of the protagonist Odorico Paraguaçu, from the play O Bem-Amado, by Dias Gomes. The mayor of the fictional city of Sucupira, located in the Brazilian State, Bahia, tries to fulfill his campaign promises through dishonest practices and empty speeches, filled with comic and incomprehensible expressions. The play O Bem-Amado is known, like other works by the author, for political and social contestations. Not forgetting the comic side of both, plot and the protagonist, this work highlights Dias Gomes' keen point of view about the Brazilian political customs, especially in small towns in the countryside. Some of these themes are common to other works by the author, such as O Pagador de Promessas, O Berço do Herói and Campeões do Mundo. This is a bibliographic, qualitative and applied research. To analyze the political satire, the farce and aspects of the characterization of the protagonist of the play O Bem-Amado, it was based on Gomes (2014); Gomes (2015); Rosenfeld (1982); Prado (1988); Mercado (2004); Esslin (1978); Pavis (2008); Kothe (2000), and some other authors.
