Resumo:
The child maltreatment correspond to any action or omission that harms the wellbeing,
physical, or psychological integrity, freedom and the right to full psychological
development of children and adolescents. Not only physical violence, because it is
easier their perception, as well as neglect, psychological abuse, sexual violence, as
Munchausen syndrome by proxy and the Shaken Baby, are said to child
maltreatment, which often go unrecognized by accountable and professionals who
look after these children. Once the child abuse affects the lives of the lower and of
their leaders at all levels, it becomes essential to adopt measures multidisciplinary
prevention, helping significantly in exclusion or solution to this problem, so that the
main pipe is the recognition of early diagnosis violence on the part of doctors, nurses,
psychologists and dentists. Like most injuries coming from maltreatment is located in
the head and neck region, dentists are in a privileged position for the analysis and
identification of child maltreatment. Although, there are many cases of child abuse
that are omitted and not reported by these professionals, where lead to several
reasons not to report, such as: unawareness of cause, uncertainty of diagnosis,
engage with justice, not knowing to whom to report the case , fear of facing parents
and fear of losing patients, some of them are. Showing that the responsibility and
obligation of the story, which in this case are very important are suppressed, leaving
the auxiliary and even resolve many injuries against children. Thus, it is essential that
regular offers graduation courses on the responsibility of the dentist in the diagnosis,
documentation, reporting and assistance to child victims of child maltreatment, they
should be educated and counseled about the recognition of the main clinical signs of
these cases , so being aware of the great responsibility in the notification and
reporting of child abuse. In this way, the present work conduct a literature review in
order to observe the knowledge of dentists about this theme.
