Resumen:
Literacy is an essential and important stage for the learning of students. In this sense the work entitled: “The importance of literacy and initial reading instruction in the integral formation of the student”, presents the course of literacy and initial reading instruction in Brazil, showing clearly that these two practices differ and complement each other, and therefore need to be worked together, to make learning meaningful to the student. As an objective, the work aims to address the relevance initial reading instruction and literacy, as a necessary process in the acquisition of reading and writing. In this case, the research is based on the theoretical contributions of Frade (2005); Mortatti (2006, 2008); Kleiman (2005, 2008); Soares (2004, 2009, 2017, 2020); BNCC (Brazil, 2018); Maciel and Resende (2015); Lajolo (1996) and Silva (2012). Regarding the methodological procedure, we adopted the bibliographic, exploratory research, under a qualitative approach. The results obtained in this research indicate that the literacy process should not be disconnected from the use of the student’s social practices in order to provide a meaningful education for him. For this reason the importance of working with the textual genres in the classroom, both for the appropriation of knowledge, but especially when training the student to know how to act in the social space.
