Résumé:
The objective of this research was to determine the prevalence of caries in 319
children aged 05 years enrolled in public education establishments in the municipality
of Patos- PB through clinical examinations for identification of cavitated dental
surfaces, CEO-D (decayed deciduous extraction indicated, filled) and need for
treatment, using the criteria recommended by the second national survey of oral
health in Brazil. Health promotion activities, as well as collecting socioeconomic data
were also performed. According to the results, the ceo-d of the municipality was 3.6.
The Santa Gertrudes, Frei Damião, Belo Horizonte, Jatobá, São Sebastião and São
José do Bonfim evaluated areas obtained mean ceo-d of 4.7; 4.1; 4.0; 3.5; 2.9; and
2.5 respectively with predominance of the decay component (3.4). According to the
socioeconomic data, it was found that the majority of children live with both parents
(73.8%), have a total income of less than one minimum wage (85.7%) and have tooth
brush at school/daycare (88.2%). Based on the presented results we observed a
trend of polarization of the disease in the city and a need to implement oral health
programs that benefit children in this age group with actions that are intended to
modify this listing on health.
