Resumo:
The endodontic therapy success depends on the integrity of the periapical tissues, making it
necessary to accurately determine the treatment working length of root canal – the
odontometry. The achievement of this length requires security, reliability and accuracy to the
operator. Given the limitations presented by the techniques routinely employed, the electronic
apex locators appear as an additional available resource in order to determine the correct root
canal length. The aim of this study is to report the clinical case of a patient with atretic palate,
which was treated at a School Dental Clinic in the city of Patos-PB, whose odontometry by
conventional radiographic method was impracticable due to large distortions in images caused
by bad positioning of the radiographic film. Thus, it justifies the use of electronic apex locator
that was essential in the practice of tooth length.
