Resumo:
Problems related to the silo, such as the formation of cohesive arcs and interruption of the silo
discharge, cause total or partial unloading. One possibility to avoid problems related to the
flow is to try to promote the mass flow by adapting the hopper with specific inserts. Thus, it
aimed to analyze the influence of inserts in the flow pattern in a slender vertical silo, for
storage of corn flour, using different heights in instant tests and tests stored for a period of 24
hours. The flow properties and flow characterization experiments were determined at the
Laboratory of Rural Constructions and Ambience - LACRA, belonging to the Federal
University of Campina Grande, Campina Grande - PB, from July to November 2018. It was
concluded that the pattern the predominant flow for the product under study was the funnel
flow, which can be mixed in some moments; with respect to the height where the insert was
fixed, the location 0.35m away from the discharge orifice, that is, height 1, was the one that
presented the best values when related to the mass flow of unloading corn flour.
