A clinical examination was performed on the elderly in the institutions themselves, and had access to his medical records. Results: the age of the elderly varied from 60 to 101 years, avarage of 77.5 years. 65.6% were female, 37.5% had locomotion problem, 59.4% were independent in daily activities, 53.1% without family cohabitation, 59.4% were single, 21.9% smoked, antihypertensive drugs were the most cited (21.9%); CPOD of 31.73 and 84.4% of the lost component, 37.5% had alterations in the oral mucosa, 71.9% did not use any prosthesis and 50% had insufficient oral hygiene. Conclusion: There was a high need for oral health care of institutionalized elderly.
