Résumé:
This work discusses Distance Education over the Internet (e-DE) emphasising its strategies, methodologies, and related technologies. We start by presenting some concepts associated with Distance Education, its characteristics, history, tools, and the legal aspects concerning e-DE in Brazil. Then we study the state-of-art in e-DE, showing the types, technologies, services, advantages and drawbacks of e-DE, giving examples of its utilization. The several steps associated with an e-DE project are discussed, from the initial analysis phase to the deployment of a pilot course. It is also proposed a strategy to estimate costs and benefits of such a course. We present a way to elaborate the institutional project and discuss aspects related to
copyrights of instructional material. Finalry, we have sought, through a case study conducted at
Universidade Tiradentes (UNIT), to report our experience in the deployment of an e-DE
project, where the concepts studied were applied.
