Resumo:
The objective of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of dentists of the
public and private health Network of the city of Patos/PB, based on the teaching
of preventive and interceptive orthodontics in undergraduate courses in
dentistry, and to evaluate the possible causes Of the absence of this practice. A
form was applied to collect the opinions of dentists who perform clinical care at
the basic health units and private clinics. For 66.7% of the interviewees, the
teaching methodologies employed in the discipline of orthodontics during
graduation were considered very efficient for learning, 86.7% of the
professionals performed clinical care in preventive orthodontics and
Interceptative in undergraduate studies, 53.3% feel able to apply preventive
and/or interceptive orthodontics with the knowledge acquired at graduation, but
56.7% have difficulty working with it daily. Most professionals considered the
time destined to the content/discipline of orthodontics very suitable for their
training in the clinic and affirmed of utmost importance the knowledge about
preventive and intercepative orthodontics seen in Graduation, since it
contributes significantly, thus improving the health of the population.
