Abstract:
The present study aims to report a case of oral leiomyosarcoma, located on the lateral
border of the tongue, exposing and discussing its clinical, histopathological and
immunohistochemical characteristics, as well as its differential diagnosis, treatment
and prognosis. The present case is an oral leiomyosarcoma that appeared on the
lateral border of the tongue of a 74-year-old man. The clinical examination showed a
firm, delimited and painful nodule measuring about 3 centimeters. After incisional
biopsy, the microscopy showed the tumor cells in an intertwined fascicular pattern and
nuclei with elongated, elongated blind ends. Immunohistochemical examination
revealed H-caldesmon, actin and vimentin-positive tumor cells and negative for S100,
allowing the final diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma. Leiomyosarcoma is a rare
mesenchymal malignancy, in which its occurrence in the tongue is unusual. The study
of lesions of unusual occurrence and the reporting of new cases are necessary, since
it allows to gather important data to know the clinical and biological behavior of the
same.
