Abstract:
Several indicators and surveys show the low financial performance of Brazilians. Many of them can't have
any money left at the end of the month and very few can afford something unforeseen. With that in
mind, the Julius application was developed for personal financial management authored by the first
author of this article. The Julius app was created to help people increase their financial well-being. For
this to occur, user engagement is essential. However, low retention shows that the application is falling
short in this regard. This work aims to implement game elements in Julius to increase retention in the
first week of use and evaluate the performance of the gamified version using Google Analytics retention
data and a questionnaire. The results show that, although most users liked gamification, it is not plausible
that it has significantly improved retention.
