Abstract:
Evaluation of lumbosacral epidurography with different volumes of iohexol in Santa Inês sheep. The aim of thisd study was to determine the cranial migration of different doses of iohexol administred by the epidural route, and to analyse possible effects on some physiologic variables in ovine. Twelve ovine of the Santa Inês breed, males and females, aging 1.6 ± 0.7 years and weighing 21 ± 5.1 Kg were used. The animals were tranquilized with acepromazin (0.1 mg/kg, IV) and after 15 minutes, 0.2 mL/kg (Group 1 – G1) and 0.4 mL/kg (Group 2 – G2) doses of iohexol were administred by epidural route. Cranial migration of the contrast médium, produced ataxia, heart frequency, duration of P wave, P-R interval, QRS complex, Q-T interval, respiratory frequency, riminal motility, and bory temperature (ToC) were analyzed. After iohexol administration, there was decubitus in one animal of the G1 and in four animals of the G2. Muscular spasticity was observed in one animal of the G1 and in two of the G2. The cranial migration of the contrast in G1 went until L2 vertebra (16 ± 5.7 cm), which was significantly smaller than G2 (T9 and 32.4 ± 8.4 cm). Heart frequency, P wave, P-R interval, QRS complex, Q-T interval and ruminal motility did not show significant statistical variations. There were significant statistical variations only in respiratory frequency of G2 starting from T0 moment, and in body temperature starting from T0 moment in both groups, all the tests were applied at the level of 5% of significancy. It is ended that the administered volume interferes in the migration of the iohexol inside the space epidural, could provoke decubitus and muscular spasticidad.
