Resumen:
Faced with the great problems that plague politics today, one in particular has become
increasingly popular. The concept of democratic recession has been gaining more and more
prominence in books, as well as the concern with the arrival of authoritarian leaders in power
in recent years, both in the United States and in Brazil. Many theories and notes are made to
offer an understanding of how certain countries reached a critical situation in their democracies,
the most common cause of democratic recession among the authors is the expansion and
diffusion of the internet in society. Based on this premise, the present work aims to discuss the
role of the virtual environment of sociability built by the internet, also known as cyberspace, in
the formation of the current crisis of Brazilian democracy, as well as to present some
observations on these current studies. To this end, a bibliographic survey of books, academic
articles and journalistic articles is carried out. Thus, we found in this work that cyberspace is
an important instrument for the political game, and several movements ended up using its
communicative potential, triggering the current democratic crisis.
