Entre o poder e a honra: cultura material e a condição feminina no sertão de Piranhas e Piancó (Capitania da Paraíba no Norte, século XVIII).

Abstract

The writing developed here aims to analyze ways of living and socioeconomic strategies in the hinterland of the Captaincy of Paraíba do Norte. Through the reading and analysis of notarial documents referring to the hinterland of Piranhas and Piancó, in the 18th century, we had contact with remnants of a sertanejo material culture and with situations that integrate us to the understanding of strategies of women inserted in an androcentric system in the Brazilian colonial context. . In this way, with the progress of the study, we identified socioeconomic practices of subjects who inhabited these sertões, as well as we came across women who, through justice, denounced situations of abandonment and exploitation, as well as created alliances throughout the sertanejo spaces. From the contact with these sources, we seek to recognize the strategies and subterfuges of women within a complex social web, surrounded by social notions brought from the Old World and resignified in the colony. Therefore, we are interested in understanding this colonial interior space and the places occupied by the feminine in the social environment of the 18th century Paraíba hinterland.
