Cajazeiras e cultura material: entre o cabedal familiar e a fortuna de Francisco Bezerra de Sousa (1876-1900).

Abstract

Through material culture in historical research, rich discussions about the 19th century in Brazil have been carried out. The objective of this work is to show how materiality, through post-mortem inventories, allows us to understand how family networks were established in the city of Cajazeiras, Paraíba, at that moment. Identifying the composition of the family patrimony and mainly the symbolic value of possession, there are conflict or interest relationships that existed there. Important records that help us to know the past, its characters and everyday life, the inventories show the social plots and the political game of the city, focusing on the process of Francisco Beserra de Sousa, considering the importance of his heritage. The use of this documentation contributes significantly to the perception of the constitution of the social body, while also helping in the mapping, appreciation and understanding of the urban fabric.
