Abstract:
The uncontrolled increase of impermeable areas in urban centers, in addition to result in
negative impacts to the environment, can cause great inconvenience to the population, caused
by flooding and flood, if it is not accompanied by a process of urban planning that includes
interdisciplinary foundations, among them the urban drainage. As the city is increasingly
urban, there is the growth of maximum flow (due to increased flow capacity by impermeable
surfaces), in addition to increased production of solid waste and sludge generation, leading to
deterioration in the quality of the water due to the washing of streets, transportation of solid
materials and illegal connections of sewer network, overloading the functioning of the
drainage system. In this context, in order to assess and collaborate for the improvement of
urban drainage service offered in the city of Campina Grande-PB, this paper proposed the
development of a performance index (IDSDU-CG) to review this system through a set of
indicators. The indicators are fundamental tools for the evaluation of basic sanitation services,
considering not only the coverage of services, as well as the quality of these, in addition to
providing an integrated analysis of the various components that are part of provision of the
service. To achieve the aforementioned goal, 11 were selected indicators related to
monitoring, elements of the existing network, urbanization and the maintenance of services
related to urban drainage, whose choice was based on the accessibility of data, reliability of
the fonts and the ability to adapt with the local reality. The indicators were calculated,
normalized, weighted and aggregated in order to obtain a rating for the IDSDU-CG from a
nominal scale. For the weighting of indicators, experts on the subject have been consulted
through a questionnaire, evaluating the importance and practicality of each indicator. Finally,
the result of 4.90 for the performance of the urban drainage system of the city, classified as a
REGULAR, and the indicators that more negatively to cooperate this result the amount of
accumulated garbage in public parks, the contribution domestic sewage stormwater network
and the small amount of mouths of Wolf in the streets.
