The civil construction segment has always played a very important role in the Brazilian economy.
Economic indicators look at the sector as if it functions as a thermometer of how the country's
economy is going. In times of economic recession such as the one that Brazil has lived in recent
years, with a decrease in the productivity of numerous productive sectors, the construction sector
felt its effects as well, and companies were forced to readapt and use tools previously left aside to
work around the crisis. Project management is a matter of paramount importance in a situation
like this. A company that has an effective management of its projects ends up having more
control of all its operations, being able to make more assertive predictions about what is to come,
and to adapt when faced with unexpected situations. Well-planned planning, a good information
system implemented, efficient communication, a well-defined scope, customer interaction,
consistent budget and well-set deadlines are taken very seriously and are at the heart of
organizations with good project management. In this train of thought this work analyzed 8
construction companies, 5 of them located in the city of Campina Grande, in Paraíba, and 3 of
them in Petrolina, in Pernambuco. The study aimed to evaluate the levels of maturity in project
management that these organizations are in that moment and relate to this, aspects that can be
found in the departments studied in these companies, based on the answers that their managers
gave to the presented questionnaire. Only one company is above the national average, and three
of them are above the Northeast average. For all of them, recommendations have been made for
attitudes that can be taken to increase the level of maturity in all of them.
