Resumen:
The construction industry is among one of the most important sectors for the
development of a nation because it has high economic importance, employs a
large number of people, generates wealth and is fundamental to the
development of a region. However, there is a great responsibility for the
management of solid waste that is generated directly or indirectly, and it is
necessary to modify the current practices in its production chain, so that the
sector can contribute adequately to the sustainable development of the country.
In this objective, the construction has been the target of the incorporation of
several types of waste due to the fact that some have similar compositions to
the natural raw materials. Among the activities that are related to the
construction industry, there is a sector of ornamental rocks that is responsible
for a significant amount of waste generated in several dimensions, among them,
marble and granite pieces. In this work was done the physical characterization
of the marble and granite residue (RMG) to study the feasibility of replacing the
conventional aggregate with the residue in the concrete production. It was also
done the study of the physical and mechanical properties of the concrete with
addition of 40% and 60% of the residues in relation to the mass of the gravel
9,5 mm. For the concrete produced, the properties of the hardened concrete
(resistance to axial compression and tensile strength by diametral compression)
and durability parameter (immersion absorption) were evaluated. The analysis
of the results shows that the use of the waste is technically feasible. It was
observed that the substitution of the conventional aggregate for marble and
granite residue promoted the increase of compressive and traction strength of
the concrete, and a slight increase in water absorption, and was therefore
indicated for use as an alternative aggregate in concrete.
