Resumen:
Water is indispensable to human activities and, consequently, to the economic and social
development of a society However, water is a scarce commodity and must be well managed to
avoid situations of collapse. The Brazilian Northeast faces drought cycles in wich population
suffers from the adversities arising with water scarcity. The optimization of reservoir operation
coupled with efficient management of water resources contributes to the rational use of water,
increasing the water supply capacity during periods of drought. In view of the described, the
research aims to use a reservoir simulation technique, through the Hidro worksheet, to study
the future water availability, in certain contexts of analysis, of the production of São José II, in
São José do Egito, in the interior of Pernambuco. Three scenarios of simulation were elaborated
and the capacity of supply for the future population, in a horizon of up to 10 years, of the
municipality was projected. The results led to the conclusion that the dam is able to continue
supplying the city and should have its operation optimized.
