Resumen:
Sustainable urban mobility has been a theme widely addressed in Brazil in recent
years. This fact is due to Federal Law No. 12,587, sanctioned on January 3, 2012,
responsible for instituting the guidelines of the National Policy on Urban Mobility,
whose central objective is to propose a change in the modal matrix of Brazilian
municipalities, placing as a focus of actions non-motorized transport and public
transportation over individual and motorized transport, such as automobiles and
motorcycles, in order to reduce the unsustainability of Brazilian cities. In view of the
need to improve urban mobility in Brazilian cities, Campina Grande - PB is undergoing
a process of change, with the implementation of cycle lanes on the city streets. The
present study had as general objective to understand the cycle lanes according to the
perception of bicycle users, and in a specific way: to identify the cycling map of the city
of Campina Grande-PB, to draw the sociodemographic profile of the bicycle users of
the researched population; to investigate the main reasons for the bicycle's adherence
to the users participating in the research; to verify the opinion of the users surveyed in
relation to the possible difficulties of the use of the bicycle, and, finally, to ascertain the
necessity of the cycle lanes and if these meet the demand of the studied population.
For the accomplishment of this study, questionnaires were applied, in two ways, the
first one with bicycle users who used the cycle lane located at Rua Pedro Otávio de
Farias, in Jardim Paulistano neighborhood, Campina Grande-PB, counting 56
questionnaires applied. And the second through an online questionnaire using the
Google platform, counting 99 participants. For the accomplishment of the research, it
was also used, observation, with daily use of field and photographic record. Although
a cycling network of almost 40km was identified, it was possible to note the
dissatisfaction of the users. Despite the divergence of the profile of the bicycle user of
the cycle lane and the user of the bicycle that responded online, there was almost
unanimous dissatisfaction due to lack of interconnection, lack of signaling, lack of traffic
education and lack of supervision.
