Canal do Pedregal: um estudo de eficiência hidráulica.

Abstract

The way the soil is used can vary greatly over time. With the population growth, the need for urbanization arises. This urbanization becomes a problem when it occurs in a disorderly way, because the constructions are executed without obeying basic norms such as occupation rate and soil waterproofing. Urban drainage projects that are dimensioned from this use can be outdated and thus lose their efficiency. The neighborhood of Pedregal, in Campina Grande, has a canal that drains the water produced by the basin, known as the Pedregal canal. This was built more than thirty years ago, during which time the neighborhood of Pedregal went through some urbanization processes which made the soil much more impermeable, increasing the volume drained over the basin drained by the canal. In view of the above, the present work has the objective of verifying the hydraulic efficiency conditions of the Pedregal canal in the face of the urbanization that has occurred in its surroundings over time, the way the residents use the canal and make a diagnosis of the structural conditions current. For this, field visits were made to verify the actual situation of the canal and to make photographic records, and to observe the flow direction of the water in order to effect subdivisions of the basin; consultation to the Municipal Planning Department for data collection and from then on the application of the rainfall-IPHS1 model considering different scenarios of use and also different design rains. The results show that in the current condition some parts of the channel overflow even for a return period of 5 years.
