Conduta do cirurgião-dentista frente às complicações em cirurgia oral.

Abstract

The occurrence of complications in oral surgery is a relatively frequent finding, being the alveolitis or alveolar osteitis, root fracture, hemorrhage, infection and buccalsinus communication, the most frequent findings. Their management is fundamental in order to eliminate or reduce the potential risks and provide wellbeing to the patient in the trans and postoperative period. This work aimed to analyze the dental surgeon (DS), general practitioner‘s conduct, when facing the most common complications during the realization of exodontia in the daily clinical practice. A specific questionnaire was prepared containing thirteen questions approaching demographic and specific data. The questionnaire was applied to 40 (forty) DS acting in the state of Paraíba, Brazil, and the data was submitted in the light of the descriptive statistics. The results showed that the level of knowledge of the assessed professionals about the conduct when facing cases of buccalsinus communication, root fracture, alveolitis, hemorrhage, mandibular fracture and aspiration of dental instruments and/or dental fragments was satisfactory. The establishment and execution of the ideal therapeutic conduct when dealing with oral surgery complications, mainly during or after the exodontia, must be fundamental to minimize the aggravation of the condition. However, it is imperative that the professional is able to establish therapeutic measures or to adequately refer the patient during the occurrence of surgical complications.
