As residents of Caiana dos Crioulos, remaining quilombo community located in Paraíba Fen, represent the trajectory of their community over time? This was the question that guided the research presented herein. To try to answer it, the following sources were appropriate: oral, produced through methodological procedures of oral history, visual, consisting of photographs produced during the fieldwork ethnographic, with the aid of Anthropology Image, as well as CD's, DVDs and documentaries that took the community by object; journals, in alluding to highlight Caiana dos Crioulos carried by newspapers and magazines materials. The main categories were: representation from Roger Chartier; ethnicity and borders, from Fredrik Barth, memory, based on authors such as Paul Ricoeur, Ecléa Bosi, Alessandro Portelli, Maurice Halbwachs and Simon Schama, and cultural self-awareness, from Marshall Sahlins. The research was based on narratives sent by the ancestors to the current generations of residents of the Caiana dos Crioulos about the origin of the community and more distant epochs in time, as well as the representations made by residents about these transmissions and about the stories that were not transmitted, also focused on the memories relating to some so-called traditional cultural practices in the community (sieve coconut wheel, fife bands) and the data by the residents of Caiana to concepts like " rescue", "culture" and "identity" own meanings and, finally, the research took as its object the memory locations in the community created by its own residents. From the analysis of these elements, the survey noted that the ways in which residents of the Caiana dos Crioulos come representing their story is based on reinterpretation of narratives handed down by their ancestors, based on the current context of the community, where it is constantly visited by "outsiders" that challenge its residents and the narrating, along with internal motivations of the community, problematize their own trajectory over time, highlighting its origin. Also in the same direction, there is a specific appropriation categories like "culture" and "identity" at the heart of the community , related to a context of recovery of such elements and the creation of ethnic boundaries that establish symbolic boundaries for others , the "outside" as well as a cultural self-awareness. Also exist in several actions Caiana valuation of the assets of the community and seeks to preserve the memories of ancestors, including being established various places of memory. In summary, the Caiana dos Crioulos has been undergoing a process of redefinition of their history, from the connections between inherited from ancestors and ethnic and cultural heritages requirement of establishing ethnic caused reorientation from its recognition while remaining quilombo community.
