Abstract:
The time of the brief democratic experiment and the early years of the military regime were marked in
the municipality of Agrestina -PE , the area of a political group that was based on the Ribeiro family, a
group that had control of the political institutions of the city, uninterruptedly between 1947 and 1969 .
Accordingly, the main objective of this work is to understand how it was built , designed and
legitimized amid practices and representations of power, the political hegemony of Ribeiro group that
municipality . For this, we use them as sources of the Proceedings of City Hall , Photography ,
Newspapers , Stats and Oral Reports , and the intersection of these records enabled us to address the
question proposed above . With regard to the theoretical framework , if on the one hand , this research
can be thought of as the result of the renewal process by which it became the political history in the
last decades , on the other , the very use of the concepts of practices and representations , and perhaps
even the objectives of this study indicate our choice of a cultural history from the political , especially
the contributions of the French historian Roger Chartier took for a loan which the concepts mentioned
above . The central assumption of this research revolves around the idea that it is mainly of credit
extended to a group proposes that representations of themselves and their power , through their
practices , which depends on the domain or the establishment of a political hegemony in referred to the
municipality of Agrestina , we assume that shared the power and authority of the group Ribeiro belief
has contributed decisively to the realization of its hegemony , since these representations often have
the character of true social institutions, and orient practices.
