In the brazilian faun there are almost 13 species of parrots, and the mainly species are
Amazona aestiva e Amazona amazonica. This work determined the hematocrit, total
plasma protein and fibrinogen levels of blue-fronted parrot and orange-winked parrot or
Amazone (Amazona aestiva and Amazona amazonica) maintained in captivity and the
objective was to supply references to help the professionals whose work with this kind of
parrots in the similar conditions of the environment and management of Paraiba. Were
used 19 healthy animals, being distributed into two groups according to specie:
(Amazona aestiva) and G2 (Amazona amazonica). The blood samples were collected by
the cut of nail, then they were packed in capillaries tubes, centrifuged for 5 minutes and
evaluated in appropriated cardboard for hematocrit determination. In this analysis the
averages were 51% ± 3,95 for GI and 47.25% ± 2,71 for G2. In the analysis for total
plasma protein the results were 5,05g/dL ± 1,19 and 4,72 g/dL ± 0,35 for GI and G2,
respectively. About the fibrinogen levels, the averages were 400,0 mg/dL ± 47,0 for GI
and 445,0 mg/dL ± 50,0 for G2. It can be concluded that the values obtained in this work
are able to be use as reference for the parrots created in the similar conditions as these
verified in the experiment.
