Abstract:
The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of lamb
subjected to food restriction followed by refeeding. A total of 40 Santa Ines sheep
whole business, averaging 17 ± 1.7 kg body weight (BW) and 100 days old. The study
was conducted in two experimental tests: a period of food restriction and refeeding
period. The experimental design was completely randomized design with four
treatments and ten repetitions. The dry matter intake (DMI) in kg / day, expressed in
gMS/kgO, and 75% in PV, as well as consumption of organic matter (IOM),
consumption of mineral material (CMM), crude protein (CP) , gross consumption of
energy (CEB), ether extract consumption (EEC), acid detergent fiber intake (CFDA),
intake of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) decreased linearly and quadratic effect for the
variables: feed conversion (FC) feed efficiency (AE), dry matter digestibility (DMD)
and digestibility of ash (MMD) and average daily weight gain (DWG) in relation to
food restriction. In the second trial, CMS, CMO, CEB, EEC, CFDA, INDF and CA
showed a linearly decreasing according to prior restraint and did not affect the following
variables: CMS gMS/PVO, 75, DMI% LW CMM, CPB, DMS, organic matter
digestibility (OMD), DMM, digestibility of crude protein (CPD), digestibility of gross
energy (GED). A quadratic effect according to the previous restriction to water
consumption (GAC) and EA, noting a decline to the point of inflection 31 and 13%
respectively. Food restriction caused a negative effect on ADG However, during the
refeeding these animals recovered and showed gains similar to those fed ad libitum.
