The study aimed to analyze the ruminal fluid of cattle fed mesquite pods (Prosopisjuliflora)
and native grasses, and kept at the Veterinary Hospital Nupearido (Semi-Arid Research
Center). We used four-breed animals (SRD), males, aged between two and four years,
clinically healthy, divided into two groups, the first was offered in30% of your diet meal
mesquite pods and voluminous the base of grass (Brachiariadecumbens) and client
(Echinochloa polydtachya) and the second group of animalswere fed with native pasture.
Physical aspects there were no changes in both groups, the color (olive green and brown),
odor (aroma), texture (slightly viscous) and timesedimentation and flotation (Gl and G2 =
6.1 = 5,5). As for the chemical aspects, the mean values for evidence of reduced methylene
blue was 5.8minutes for the Gl and G2 for 7minutes, compared to the pH values remained
within the normal rangefound for Gl = 7 and with a slight increase in G2 = 7.35, and
determining the chloridecontent obtained an average of 48.5mEq/L for Gl and 22.5mEq/L
for G2. In themicrobiological aspects, evaluation of the percentage of living infusoria in
Gl averaged 70% and 81% for G2, density and motility moderate (+ + -) for Gl and
G2,and the predominance of small protozoa in both groups. The values of some variables
analyzed rumen fluid changed in both groups.
