Résumé:
Babesiosis also known as equine piroplasmosis or nutaliose is a major parasitic disease of horses that causes great harm to the animal. The disease is a hemoparasitosis caused by Babesia equi (Theleria equi) and Babesia caballi that infect and destroy red blood cells, causes equine function impairment leading to loss of vitality and decrease yield in infected animals. B. caballi is about 3pm length (2.5 to 5 mm) and is installed in the red cells parasitized them. Babesia equi measures less than 3 mm in length (1.0 to 2.5 mm) and produced within the red blood cells forms a rosette or cross, which makes it also called the "Maltese Cross". In this study, we used 14 horses of
Quarter of Mile breed Pure Blood created in properties located in the city of Canguaretama / RN, aged between 3 and 14 years, of both sexes, reared under intensive and extensive, which collected-blood samples were taken from the jugular vein and the tip of the ear for making blood smears order to identify the presence of Babesia spp. All animals were negative, so there is detected the haemoparasite in blood samples obtained.
