Résumé:
A work aiming to Brucela ovis in sheep from semi-arid of Paraiba was conducted. It was
divided in two phases: in phase I, accomplished at the Public Slaughterhouse of Patos-PB, 64
testicles, epididymides, vesicular glands and ampullae samples and 16 uterus and/or placental
samples from animals with or without clinical alterations suggestive of B. ovis infection were
collected. In phase II, 21 herds with previous relate of seropositivity for B. ovis were visited. In both
phases, blood samples were collected. It were accomplished microbiological culture, serology for B.
ovis by agar gel immunodifusion test (AGID), serology for B. abortus by Rose Bengal Test (RBT)
and Polymerase Chain Reaction using genus-specific primers. In phases I and 11, 6 (8%) e 1 (3%)
animals were seropositive in AGID test, respectively. There were no seropositive animal for B.
abortus. B. ovis sugestive colonies were isolated of vaginal swab from a seropositive ewe and
Brucella spp. DNA was detected in pool of samples from the seropositive animals.
