The aim of the present study was to evaluate the use of the male effect in the
synchronization of the estrus in goats, associated to a hormonal administration. 90 females,
and 4 fertile Boer bucks, were used. The females were separate from physical and visual
contact with males for a period of one month and they received concentrated ration twice a
day. The female were divided in 3 experimental groups with 30 goats each: G1 – vaginal
sponges were inserted impregnated with 50mg of medroxiacetate progesterone (MAP), for a
period of 12 days, in the tenth day of permanence cloprostenol 0,5ml was applied , from 36 at
42 hours after the removal of the sponge two males of proven fertility were introduced by a
period of seven days; G2 - No application of vaginal sponges nor cloprostenol, two fertile
bucks were introduced for a period of seven days; G3 - they had inserted vaginal sponges
impregnated with 50mg of MAP, for a period of 12 days, in the tenth day of permanence
0,5ml cloprostenol was applied, in the 12° day 250μg eCG intramuscular, were applied. The
females were bred witth the spontaneous manifestation of the estrus. The results for the
synchronization of the estrus and fertility were: G1 80% and 70%, G2 30% and 24% and 68%
and 60% respectively. It is ended that, the association of implant intravaginal of progesterone
and cloprostenol, associate to the male effect presents satisfactory results of synchronization
and fertility .
