Resumen:
This study had as objective identifies the illnesses diagnosed in goats and sheeps in the
Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Campina Grande and to suggest control
measures adapted to the area. The study embraced the years from 2004 to 2010 being
registered 540 attendances in goats and 427 in sheeps. After analysis of the results we
observed that the gastrointestinal parasites, the infections neonatais and puerperais, the
afecções prune, the linfadenite caseosa and the lacking and metabolic diseases were the
most frequent problems. There was reduction in the occurrence of illnesses as the
obstructive urolitíase and I increase in the occurrence of mycotic rhinitis in sheeps. The
larger neoplasms prevalence was observed in the goats. The results are similar to those
found in studies conducted for more than twenty years in Brazil demonstrating that
there is resistance from farmers regarding adoption of control measures already
determined for many diseases. The difficulty in demonstrating systematic results from
the adoption of these technologies, among other things, is one of the barriers to
controlling diseases in the region. The measures to be instituted to reduce diseases
would: encourage the practice of fodder storage, adequate stocking of pastures,
implementation of integrated control of parasites and appropriate management of
neonates. The accomplishment of vaccinations against the rage, the botulism, the
enterotoxemia and the caseous lymphadenitis should be considered after evaluation of
the use need.
