Resumen:
This study had as objective to verify the rates of occurrence of caseous lymphadenitis in goats
and sheep slaughtered at the abattoir in the city of Patos-PB. 918 animals were evaluated,
compared to post-death inspection, which showed the pathological lesions such as lymph node
hypertrophy and caseous abscess formation, externally or internally were submitted to the
collection of the abscesses, lymph nodes or part of damaged organs. The Identification of
Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis has been performed by microbiological diagnosis. From
the 255 goats and 663 sheep studied, 27 (10.60%) and 53 (8.00%) respectively were positive for
caseous lymphadenitis. The comparison of disease occurrence between species evaluated, as well
as sex match did not obtain statistically significant results P <0.05. The lymph nodes most
affected by C. pseudotuberculosis in sheep were pre-scapular (22.60%), and pre-femoral
(18.86%), pulmonary lesions were also frequently found (15.09%). In goats the lymph nodes
most affected were the pre-femoral (22.22%), pre-scapular (14.81%) and hepatitis (14.81%).
