Résumé:
The Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil caused changes in the country's social, economic
and environmental contexts. In the health area, the provision of basic sanitation
services has become essential to combat the proliferation of the virus. However, the
pandemic situation exposes the precarious sanitation conditions that some Brazilian
cities are in, perpetuating a possible health crisis. In this context, the present research
aimed to spatially analyze the correlation between the incidence of Covid-19 cases
and access to basic sanitation services in the urban area of the municipality of Patos
(PB). The work is characterized as a descriptive and exploratory study, with a
qualitative-quantitative approach. A bibliographic and documentary research was
carried out, using as instruments the use of secondary data from the epidemiological
bulletin of the Municipal Health Department of Patos (PB), the National Sanitation
Information System (SNIS) and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (
IBGE), in addition to the use of Excel and Qgis tools, on-site visits and photographic
records. Soon, it was found that the entire population of the urban area had access to
the water supply service. However, the impasses found in the sanitary sewage and
urban solid waste (MSW) services have been causing unsanitary situations that tend
to contribute to the spread of the virus and increase the health vulnerability of the
population. In view of this, it was concluded that there was one and that the failures in
the service of some sanitation services may have an indirect correlation with the growth
of the incidence of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the urban area of the municipality
of Patos (PB).
