Abstract

This dissertation has as one goal presenting the construction of frames for Gilberto Amado arising from his memorialistic narrative, composed in five memory books. Peculiar portraits of the author are developed in his memories, specially the one who aims to constitute and consolidate his portrait while an intellectual person. Thus, we intend to problematize the traveled path on his memories in order to reconstruct the Gilberto Amado intellectual. This path goes from the narrative around his relative, scholar and personal relationships till the author intellectual position while politician during the First Republic period, governed by Vargas. We aim to problematize the discursive strategies used by the author with the purpose of legitimizing his intellectual position and never being in ostracism. In this study, his memorialistic narrative is considered as a sense generator and a truth inventor. Based on this perspective, the language is not seen as exterior faced Gilberto Amado's life experience, not even as a truth to be revealed, but as a singular creation of himself. We aim, as the charge of a historian, deconstruct these truths, and work out on the chinks of the frames which Amado would want them to become solid through words.
