The clinical knowledge of cardiac abnormalities and early diagnosis of these are of fundamental importance in medical clinic routine small animals, helping both in the formulation of differential diagnosis and prevention of clinical complications, such as the establishment of an appropriate therapy. The management of patients with chronic diseases, especially heart disease, should be carefully evaluated, makes it necessary to use all the diagnostic techniques, ranging from a complete medical history, physical examination, imaging and laboratory tests, to the common sense to determine the importance of each alteration found, providing valuable information on the evolution of heart disease and its control. Thus, the aim of this research was to describe the clinical, epidemiological and laboratory of cardiac dogs examined at the Veterinary Hospital of UFCG, contributing to the study of veterinary cardiology at Paraiba semi-arid region and on the world stage. Carried out a survey of clinical records, selecting dogs to clinical and radiographic evaluation presented heart disease. The results showed that even not possible to determine the etiologic diagnosis of heart disease, a broad clinical and epidemiological knowledge of these should be consolidated so that the pathophysiological consequences of heart disease are quickly identified, bringing survival of cardiac patients. Ophthalmologic abnormalities, obesity and tumors should be carefully investigated and considered as flags in suspected heart disease. Additionally, routine laboratory procedures, more specific tests such as the evaluation of electrolytes, cardiac biomarkers and cytology, in case of presence of tumors, should be included in the systematic review.
