Resumo:
The evaluation of new anesthetic techniques is important to know the possible side effects
that drugs can cause. The dissociative anesthesia is used routinely in veterinary medicine in
combination with α-2 adrenergic agonists or benzodiazepines. This dissertation was divided
into two original chapters based on the evaluation of the association of dexmedetomidine and
ketamine. In the first chapter was made a comparative assessment of cardiorespiratory effects
of these two drugs administered intramuscularly or by continuous infusion in rabbits. In the
second chapter was evaluated the influence of anesthesia with the combination of
dexmedetomidine and ketamine by continuous infusion in rabbits submitted to controlled
hypovolemia. In both experiments were evaluated clinical and electrocardiographic
parameters, the second chapter was additionally evaluated the blood gas variables. In the two
sections it was concluded that the combination of ketamine and dexmedetomidine provided
minimal physiological changes in animals.
