Abstract:
This essay discusses, in the first chapter, about the use of ultrasound transabdominal in the gastrointestinal tract of healthy donkeys, in order to find a standard of ultrasound normality for this species and, with that, become another means and method to help the equine clinician to unravel the causes of the most varied clinical cases of colic that routinely affect these species. For this, an INFINIT 5V Expert portable ultrasound device equipped with microconvex and linear frequency transducers adjustable from 7 to 10 MHz was used. Ten donkeys were analyzed in the study, being five males and five females, and the inclusion criterion was the absence of gastrointestinal disease signs. The exams were performed at the Diagnostic Imaging sector, from the Veterinary University Hospital “Prof. Dr. Ivon Macêdo Tabosa ” from Health and Rural Technology Center of the Federal University of Campina Grande, Patos-PB campus. In the second chapter, the standard of normality found in the first study was undoubtedly essential to make the diagnosis and suggest the appropriate treatment for a donkey affected by colic. And so, we verified that transabdominal ultrasound is an indispensable tool to assist animals of the asinine species affected with colic syndrome.
