Abstract:
Cutting goat breeding in the Brazilian Northeast is a cattle raising activity of great
economic importance to producers in this region, due to the high prices achieved in its
commercialization, making Northeastern families an important source of income. The
objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the bulky food type and the complete
diet administration on carcass and meat characteristics of crossbred goats. Thirty-two
crossbred F1 Boer X SPRD and Savana X SPRD goats were used, with an average of 120
days of age and a mean of 16 kg of live weight. It was used a complete diet, with
voluminous ratio: concentrate 30:70, and it could be the diet of the administration form
pelleted or pelleted. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 2 x 2
factorial scheme (two types of bulky and two forms of diet administration). After the
period of confinement, the animals were slaughtered to obtain carcass weight and yields
and their edible and non-edible constituents, morphometry, and the characterization of
the regional and tissue composition of the carcass. Carcass weights and yields of goats
were not influenced by the type of diet bulk. Goats fed with pelleted feed had higher warm
carcass yield. Animals that consumed the pelleted ration had greater liver and heart
weight, compared to the lean body. The constituents of the inedible carcass were not
influenced by the bulk and diet administration, except for the weight of the diaphragm,
higher for goats that consumed pelleted ration. The morphometric measurements of the
goats were not influenced by the type of roughage and the way of administration of the
diet. The yield of the neck, for the animals that consumed the ration had higher proportion.
A significant difference was observed for renal pelvic fat score, with the highest index
being for goats fed with pelleted feed. It was concluded that there was no difference in
the use of buffel grass hay and manioc hay in the carcass characteristics evaluated and in
the regional and tissue composition of the carcass. And the use of the pelleted ration
provided the goats with improved carcass yield indexes and the kidneys' pelvic kidney fat
score.
