Abstract:
The expansion of services in animal health and the use of new diagnostic techniques have
increased the prospect of life of pets.Consequently, the number of cancer diagnoses in
domestic animals have grown at the same rateand veterinary chemotherapy has been
highlighted in recent decades, as an important alternative in the treatment of various types of tumors,mainly due to its efficiency in patient recovery and low acquisition cost of some
drugs.Despite the therapeutic efficacy of many chemotherapeutic protocols, the use of these
drugs has severe limitations,which are related to its adverse effects, and thus it is essential a
careful medical evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of treatment.This study aimed
to compile results of research conducted in the last decade on the main pharmacological,
clinical and adverse effects of antineoplastic chemotherapy main substances used in
veterinary medicine,highlighting doxorubicin, vincristine, cyclophosphamide and cisplatin.
This review brings together the important work of Brazil and other countries where
therapeutic measures against tumors has advanced in recent years,representing a significant
contribution to the study of these diseases and their treatment in veterinary medicine.This
study was conducted using the databases Pubmed, Sielo Portal Capes and access to journals
