Abstract

Understanding the Literature as social representation, this work is an analysis of the dam regionalist novel, the writer of Sousa Ignez Mariz, which portrays the story of a family of northeastern strollers that due to the adversity caused by the drought of 1932, will look for work of weirs in São Paulo. With an easy language characters marked building, representative of some social subjects of the time (the 1930s), the author marks in her text, by the action of characters, full details of the construction of another dam in the 1930s, in the hinterland of Paraíba Moreover, she appreciates the trotes work, education and the role of women. In the research, time and space are categories of analysis context of social representation (based on the ideas of Moscovici and Jodelet) exposed the plot. Therefore, Amongst the whistles of the House-of-Force, The Dam: textual analysis of the classroom, back up to the following question: whafs the contribution of the dam to the community of São Gonçalo in regard to the representation of social, historical and cultural points of that place? In attempt to answer this question, this work has a small ethnic bias, and analytical-interpretative, with a part-documentary and historical literature and it's based on the following general objectives: 1) analyze, interpret and understand time and space as categories context of analysis, in the novel The Dam, 2) seek to understand the representation of social,historical and cultural of São Gonçalo in the plot of the novel The dam, 3) contribute to the integration of new teaching practices in daily school. And it has the following specific objectives: 1) The analytically read of The Dam, 2) identify and analyze the representation of social, cultural and historical romance of São Gonçalo in the Ignez Mariz concerned, 3) plan and practice the study of the novel in the classroom of class. seeking better understanding of the objectives, the work is divided in two parts: first, there is a literature review and analysis of the social representation of São Gonçalo in the dam. In the second part, issues are addressed to education (reading literature, writing, teacher training, literacy among the topics) and the description and analysis of an experience with teaching the novel in the classroom. Finally, take up the guiding question and highlights that São Gonçalo is, rather, a literary text, that the dam, and it deserves (why not) be working in the classroom, especially in the hinterland of Paraiba.
