Abstract:
This study was to evaluate the health profile of goat herds in the state of Bahia, through the
microbiology of 204 samples of milk goats and the search for antibodies against caprine
arthritis encephalitis, brucellosis and leptospirosis in 13 dairy herds of municipalities the
Senhor do Bonfim, Andorinha, Monte Santo and Itiuba. Of the 204 samples of milk, it was
possible the isolation of bacteria in 17 (8.33%) animals. Staphylococcus sp, Micrococcus
sp and Corynebacterium sp were identified in 47.05%), 35.3% and 11.85% of the samples,
respectively. A sample (5.8%) has not been definitively identified. There was no isolation
of Mycoplasma spp or presence of antibodies against the virus arthritis encephalitis goats
and Brucella abortus. Antibodies against anti-Leptospira spp were not identified in any of
the 102 samples examined. It is concluded that the studied herds have good level of health,
requiring epidemiological surveillance to maintain this status health.
